Optimist Club of Radcliff gets first place in Bragger’s Hall at national convention

-A A +A

Optimist Club of Radcliff board member Jessie Lee and Secretary Denise Haynes participated in the Optimist International Bragger’s Hall workshop during the 2011 convention on July 4 in Baltimore, Md. Each participating club was assigned a table where they could display project materials such as posters, pictures, information handouts and journal entries to share information about one of their club’s creative community service projects or successful fundraisers. Convention attendees were invited to visit the Bragger’s Hall to get new ideas and learn how to organize the projects in their communities.  As an incentive for clubs to participate in the Hall, a special prize was offered to the club with the best project display. As attendees left the Hall, they were able to vote for their favorite display. The winning club was awarded one free registration to the 2012 International Convention in Milwaukee.

Lee and Haynes won the first place prize for showcasing the Optimist Club of Radcliff's Fishing Derby. As part of their display, they had several pictures showing kids having fun at the derby, along with news articles that had been written about the event. They distributed handouts that described in detail how other clubs can begin their own fishing derby along with contact numbers for further questions. Finally, they had a fishing pond where attendees could choose a duck with the possibility of winning a little something special.
