A Georgia man will be sentenced Tuesday in Hardin Circuit Court for possession of counterfeit $100 bills after accepting a plea deal.

Kwame V. Carter, 21, was indicted March 8 for first-degree possession of a forged instrument. That same day he accepted a plea agreement through the county’s rocket docket program.

According to the agreement, Carter was found in possession of five counterfeit bills March 27, 2012, in Hardin County. The bills originally were $5 but were bleached and reprinted as $100.

The Commonwealth Attorney’s Office has recommended a seven-year sentence, which is to be probated for five years.

Carter remains lodged at Hardin County Detention Center in lieu of a $50,000 cash bond. According to jail records, he’s been incarcerated since Feb. 22.

First-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument is a Class C felony, which is punishable by five to 10 years in prison if found guilty, according to Kentucky Revised Statutes.

An indictment is an allegation, not proof of guilt. The defendants are innocent until proven guilty.
