By NATHANIEL BRYAN nbryan@thenewsenterprise.com ELIZABETHTOWNThe one-two punch of Donovan Chandler and Brenden Seren were good enough to help Schererville (Ind.) get another shot at powerhouse Lexington Southeastern. Chandler, Schererville’s leadoff hitter, had a perfect day at the plate and Seren, the Sluggers’ No. 2 hitter and pitcher, turned in one of the tournament’s dominant pitching performances as Schererville routed West Kentucky champion Louisville Prairie Village, 10-0 late Monday night in the Cal Ripken Ohio Valley Regional 12-year-old 50/70 Tournament’s losers’ bracket championship game at Sonny Chaput Field. The game, which was originally scheduled for an 8 p.m. first pitch, didn’t get started until after 9:30 and didn’t end until nearly 11 p.m. The victory helps Schererville get a shot at redemption against Southeastern, which sent Schererville into the losers’ bracket with a 10-5 win earlier Monday. Lexington beat the Sluggers in last year’s 11-year-old regional finals in Montgomery County. Schererville and Southeastern will meet at 6 tonight in the title game of the 10-team, double-elimination game. If Schererville wins, the teams will meet again immediately following the 6 p.m. game. Chandler went 3-for-3 with a double, four stolen bases, two runs batted in and two runs scored. Seren, who was selected as his team’s Player of the Game, threw a complete-game two-hitter. He struck out six and walked only two of the 19 batters he faced. Blake Bosold singled, scored and drove in three runs for Schererville, while Frank Podkul singled, scored and drove in one and Austin Howard singled and scored. Rory Gard had an RBI single. Cameron Palmer, who was selected as Prairie Village’s Player of the Game, went 1-for-2. Koty Groah also singled. Schererville scored two runs on one hit and four Prairie Village errors in the third inning. The Sluggers added four runs on two hits and two Prairie Village errors in the fourth inning and forced a mercy-rule ending with four runs on three hits and two walks in the fifth.
