Sen. Dennis L. Parrett, D-Elizabethtown, was joined Wednesday on the floor of the Kentucky State Senate by special guests – Team Kentucky — to support passage of his Senate Resolution 290, honoring Special Olympics Day. The day is a testament to all athletes and coaches who have made Special Olympics a special part of Kentucky’s athletic tradition and recognizes all those who will compete at the 2014 Special Olympics USA Games in pursuit of gold. The third USA Games are June 14-21 in New Jersey. The event will bring together 3,500 athletes and 1,000 coaches from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. It will feature 14 sports as well as a number of cultural and social activities for the athletes. Team Kentucky is made up of 39 athletes and 16 coaches. They will compete in seven sports: swimming, artistic gymnastics, track and field, basketball, bocce, bowling, flag football and golf.
