State says interchange with interstate could offer safer traffic flow

The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet intends to continue work this year on the extension of Ring Road with an interchange at the Western Kentucky Parkway.

Officials also said the extension of Ring Road from the parkway to Interstate 65 remains in the initial design phases.

“We are currently looking to justify a new interchange with the Federal Highway Administration,” said John Moore, project development branch manager for the KYTC District 4 office in Elizabethtown.

The state is unable to speculate on what landowners could be affected by the extension of Ring Road to I-65, but it is expected to intersect I-65 between exit 86 in Glendale and exit 91 in Elizabethtown. Officials said the connection will create safer and more effective traffic flow from southern Elizabethtown into Radcliff and Fort Knox through the establishment of Ky. 361, also known as the Elizabethtown-to-Radcliff connector. The proposed name for the E2RC, once finished, is Patriot Parkway.

“When initial plans are created, residents will be notified of a public meeting concerning the project,” Moore added.
