Says city could do more with designated planner

With Radcliff promoting Summer Blast in late June, Councilman Jacob Pearman pushed City Council to seriously consider the creation of an events coordinator position.

Pearman said he believes the city's development of new festivals and events has brought its residents closer together and an employee dedicated to the cultivation of local entertainment could push Radcliff to a higher echelon.

"I think we could just do more," he said.

Pearman said the task is currently placed on the backs of Mayor J.J. Duvall and his staff. Elizabethtown and Vine Grove have already opted to hire event coordinators, Duvall noted.

"We do it all ourselves," he said. "It does task us."

Duvall and his staff were the ones who reached out to country music artist David Lee Murphy, who will headline Summer Blast at 8 p.m. June 29.

Councilman Don Yates said the position is something the city could look at in the future, but Pearman said the time to move is now.

"I don't think we should put it off too long," he said.
