French country design with a southern flair appealed to many visitors of the 2012 Parade of Homes, presented this month by the Lincoln Trail Home Builders Association.
A custom home at 320 Graceland Trail in Elizabethtown earned the People’s Choice Award, based on votes cast by guests who visited all 13 homes on the tour, the association announced this week.
Described by the builder, Smith Family Homes Inc., as “French country design that commands respect while offering hospitality with a southern flair,” the home features approximately 4,000 square feet of finished living space and is situated on 32 acres.
“We wanted an untraditional farm house, to feel like we’ve lived here 50 years already,” said Kelly Whitsell.
The Whitsell family had the four bedroom, four and a half bathroom home built and has lived there since June. They feel the comfortable, lived-in feel they were going for was achieved.
Amenities include a hearth-keeping room with a stone fireplace and custom window seats. A formal great room features 20-foot ceilings and a two-sided fireplace while the formal dining room is enhanced with a coffered ceiling and craftsman columns. Two open staircases lead to three second-floor bedrooms and a children’s study loft.
The home also earned a nod from association judges for the best bathroom among parade homes with 3,500 to 4,500 square feet.
