Central Hardin High School students Samantha Dorminey, from left, Lauren Weaver, Mary Jane Grace, Emily Pendergrast, Krystal Wiest, Jasmine Jones, Tyler Hack, Brittany Chenault, Lindsey Williams, Taylor Brost, Sarah Shaneyfelt, art teacher Antonio Menendez, and student Emily Churchman stand Tuesday in front of one the works the students painted for Holiday Inn Express in Radcliff, at Central Hardin High School. The hotel plans to display the works in the pool area. Originally wanting murals after seeing the space Menendez suggested canvasses, said general manager Sandra Gonzales. They looked at different artists but chose Central Hardin students because they wanted to stay local. "What better way to do it than have our school kids," Gonzales said. The hotel purchased the canvasses for the works but also gave the art department $1,500. "I thought it was a great experience for the students," Menendez said. He noted it gave them "real-life" experience, working with other artists and on a timeline. He plans to put the money toward new easels, studio lighting and plaster casts for still lifes for next year.
