Photos: Students gather pennies for presents

The students were buying gifts with funds raised by the schoolwide Pennies for Presents project. Signorino's second-graders count the money then some of her students along with older student mentors shop for other children. The recipient children are students within the school community selected by the family resource centers.

Woodland Elementary teacher Becky Signorino helps students look over the list of toys to purchase for a recipient child Monday at Walmart in Radcliff as they spend funds raised through the school's Pennies for Presents project. Signorino says the project has been going on for 15 years and it helps teach students that some families need assistance and that "money doesn't grow on trees."
