By BOB WHITE email@example.com ELIZABETHTOWN — Detectives on the case said last week it was only a matter of time before a serial bank robber known only as the “plaid-shirt bandit” was caught. That happened Thursday night when Joseph Paul Young, identified as the robber last week by a former girlfriend, was arrested at his home in Missouri. Young, a Rogersville, Mo. native, was identified as the plaid-shirt bandit suspect after news reports of a Charleston W.Va. bank robbery aired across the region. Among the estimated 20 bank robberies police say Young is linked to, is a June 2007 robbery of Citizens Union Bank at Mall Park in Elizabethtown. Young now is jailed on numerous counts of bank robbery. It is unclear how prosecution will commence since so many jurisdictions are involved, but the case likely will be handled in U.S. District Court, according to police and prosecutors. Young is thought to be behind more than half a dozen bank robberies in Kentucky. Bob White can be reached at (270) 505-1750.
