Police say a Sunday night shooting at the Five Star Food Mart near Lincoln Parkway in Elizabethtown stemmed from road rage a few miles earlier in the northbound lane of Interstate 65.
The shooting left Su Hong Springer, 53, of Murfreesboro, Tenn. in critical condition at University Hospital in Louisville.
Elizabethtown police say through their investigation they have found that Springer, driving a Dodge Caravan, was tailgating another vehicle. When that vehicle and another, driving in tandem, exited the interstate to purchase gas, Springer followed the vehicles to Five Star.
According to surveillance video, Springer's vehicle pulled into the parking lot and then the passenger side window was lowered. A handgun is reported to be pointed out of the Caravan at occupants in a Nissan Rogue. Shots are fired and Springer was struck once in the upper body.
The Caravan then pulled away from the gas pump area, crossed East Dixie and landed in a ditch, police said.
Springer allegedly was shot by Howard K. Wright, 24, of Memphis, Tenn., according to police. No charges have been filed and the investigation continues.
Police were called shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday.
Springer was transported by Hardin County Emergency Medical Services to Hardin Memorial Hospital and then airlifted to University Hospital.
EPD sopkesman Virgil Willoughby said the grand jury will look at the case.
