Nolin RECC customers told to be alert to possible scam

Nolin RECC customers are urged to be aware of a reported billing scam.

Nolin RECC Chief Executive Officer Mickey Miller contacted Kentucky State Police to report that several of the co-op's customers were receiving telephone calls from a man with a foreign accent asking for credit card information or a green-dot money orders to reconcile past due bills.

Nolin RECC said it will never request payment over the phone. If you are late on a payment, you could receive an automated message but not a telephone solicitation. Any customer with questions about their bill can contact Nolin RECC at 270-765-6153.

Police say scams of this type are becoming common and once they are exposed to the public they generally die out.

KSP, which is investigating this complaint, advises the public not to place paymentsor other sensitive information in mail boxes with the flag up. This is a common way that criminals obtain account information.
