The Potted Few Garden club met on May 21 at the home of Ria Malito, Evergreen Gardens, Elizabethtown. Bonnie Gunter was co-hostess. President Maritza Johnson conducted the meeting. An update on the Dogwood District meeting which will be hosted by the Potted Few Garden Club and the Elizabethtown Garden Club was given by Mrs. Johnson. It was announced that Martha Mengel attended the South Atlantic Regional meeting in Louisville and that five members of the club attended the annual meeting of the Kentucky Garden Clubs in Lexington. The Potted Few took first place awards at the state meeting for the Year Book and Press Book and first place in SAR Awards for the Press Book. Four members attended the Louisville Council of Federated Garden Clubs annual meeting on May 20. Ria Malito gave a program on “Making Miniature Designs.” She demonstrated the making of a small (eight-inch) design and a miniature (5-inch) design. Participants followed her directions and experimented with making their own designs, using their imagination to create unique or clever original arrangements, always keeping things in scale with the tiny container or a facsimile of one. Malito then critiqued each design, correcting any errors or mistakes as a judge would. All members agreed that it was a very informative, interesting and fun program. The annual potluck salad luncheon is at 10 a.m. June 18 at the home of Lahoma Baymor, Martin Lane, Radcliff. Those attending should call Baymor at 351-5853 to make a reservation and tell her whether you will be bringing a salad or dessert. It will be the last meeting until September. Bonnie Gunter will provide entertainment by “Making an Herb Container Together.”
