The News-Enterprise LEWISPORT — The Meade County Green Wave got the start they wanted, but not the finish. The 11th District Tournament champions took a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning but couldn’t hold onto it as they fell to 9th District runner-up Owensboro, 9-5 in the 3rd Region Baseball Tournament quarterfinals Monday at Hancock County. Owensboro (8-15) chipped into Meade County’s lead by scoring one run in the second inning and two more in the third before breaking the game open with a six-run fourth. “Their pitcher (Nick Bush) kind of settled in after he first inning,” said first-year Meade County coach Todd Clanton. “Then in the fourth, they strung together some hits and we didn't string together anything after that. We hit him every inning, but we couldn't put anything together after that.” Freshman Bo Wilson took the loss for the Green Wave. He helped himself at the plate with a triple and double. Meade County finished the year 13-15, winning 6-of-8 games prior to the region tournament. “It was a good first year. We finished the season playing good baseball and that’s all you can ask,” Clanton said. “We hope to build on this for the future as we have most of our starters coming back. I think the kids feel there’s a little excitement in the air.” OWENSBORO 9, MEADE COUNTY 0 R H E Owensboro 012 600 0 9 13 0 Meade County 400 010 0 5 10 1 Nick Bush and Jacob Hardesty.
