Sophomore Zeke Pinkham hit a two-run homer and drove in four runs, helping the host Elizabethtown Panthers stave off a late rally by Breckinridge County in a 9-6 victory Tuesday.
Pinkham homered in the sixth, which gave Elizabethtown (1-0) a 9-0 lead. The Panthers would need every bit of that cushion as the Fighting Tigers (0-1) scored six runs in the seventh.
Senior Garrett Morgan doubled, tripled and scored twice for the Panthers, who had five extra-base hits. Freshman Hunter Sullivan singled and tripled, while senior Cannon Pender had a double.
Pender (1-0) got the win as he struck out four and walked one without allowing a hit in five innings.
