PREP BASEBALL-SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Elizabethtown beats Fort Knox (05/03)

Senior Cannon Pender and junior Preston Patterson combined for two doubles, two singles and seven RBIs as the visiting Elizabethtown Panthers cruised to a 14-1 five-inning victory over 17th District rival Fort Knox on Thursday.

Elizabethtown (19-6, 6-2 district), which had 13 hits, broke the game open with nine runs in the second inning. Freshman Hunter Sullivan tripled, while sophomores Zeke Pinkham and Cody Bridges each had two singles.

Senior Garrett Morgan struck out five in four innings to improve to 4-0. He allowed three hits.

Freshman Coltinn Stabler, sophomore Jon Box and senior Spencer Moore each singled for the Eagles (4-24, 0-8), who lost their third straight game.

MEADE COUNTY 15, BULLITT CENTRAL 4 (5 INNINGS). Senior Jake Wilson hit two homers, singled and drove in five runs and the visiting Green Wave (13-13) pounded out six extra-base hits in a rout of Bullitt Central (13-11).

Senior Kaleb Lancaster doubled and drove in four runs, while senior Derek Bruner singled, doubled and had an RBI. Junior Keith Carter hit an RBI double and freshman Jacob Bewley had a two-run single.

After falling behind 3-2 through two innings, Meade County erupted for 11 runs in the third.

ADAIR COUNTY 4, LARUE COUNTY 0. The visiting Indians (19-6) scored all of their runs in the sixth inning as they won their 14th straight game and beat the Hawks (10-17) for the second time this season.

Senior Matt Hornback and freshman Colby Skaggs each had two singles for LaRue County, which had won 3-of-4.

Senior southpaw Jordan McGaw struck out five in seven innings. He allowed three earned runs, three hits and two walks.

NO. 15 CENTRAL HARDIN 3, GREEN COUNTY 1. Freshman Mariah Bryant collected two hits, including a double, as homestanding Central Hardin (23-3) picked up its 14th straight win by beating 5th Region foe Green County (15-5).

The Lady Dragons, who beat the Lady Bruins in last season’s region tournament semifinals, took a 1-0 lead in the second. But Central Hardin grabbed the lead with two in the bottom of the inning and added an insurance run in the third.

Junior April Pence struck out three and scattered four hits and one unearned run in seven innings.

JOHN HARDIN 13, FORT KNOX 3 (6 INNINGS). Seniors Brooke Read and Lexi Wood went a combined 5-for-8 with three doubles and two RBIs as the visiting Lady Bulldogs (6-10, 3-3 17th District) snapped a three-game losing streak with a big win over district rival Fort Knox (4-17, 0-7).

Senior Katlyn Geer, junior Nawdya Fletcher and sophomore Channing Ray each had two singles and an RBI for John Hardin, which had 16 hits.

Geer (6-10) struck out five and gave up seven hits, one walk and one earned run in six innings.

Senior Demyja Holmes went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for Fort Knox.

MEADE COUNTY 6, HANCOCK COUNTY 5. Junior Ashley Nikolao hit a two-run homer to tie the score in the bottom of the fifth and freshman Emma Wilson scored on a passed ball in the sixth to win it for the Lady Waves (18-7, 4-0 11th District).

Nikolao drove in three runs for Meade County, which won its fifth straight.

Junior Chaselyn Allgeier tripled, singled and scored three runs, while sophomore Elissa Youart tripled and scored.

HART COUNTY 1, LARUE COUNTY (8 INNINGS). The homestanding Lady Raiders won it on a walk-off single in the eighth, snapping the Lady Hawks’ three-game winning streak in an 18th District game.

LaRue County (12-17, 3-3 district) had beaten Hart County (18-9, 2-4), 11-5 earlier this season but was held to just three singles – by junior Peyton Gardner and freshmen Delany Eastridge and Haleigh Gregory – in the rematch.

Junior Brigitte Skaggs (7-9) struck out five in 7 1/3 innings. She gave up three hits and one earned run.
