PREP BASEBALL/SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Elizabethtown beats LaRue County, John Hardin tops Fort Knox (03/28)

Junior Conner Kindred pitched four strong innings for his first win of the year and sophomore Zach McKinney picked up a three-inning save as the Elizabethtown Panthers pulled away for an 8-0 win Thursday against the host LaRue County Hawks.

Kindred gave up two singles, walked two and struck out four. McKinney gave up three singles and one walk while striking out three.

Sophomore Hunter Sullivan led the way offensive for Elizabethtown (4-2) with a double, two singles, two RBIs and a stolen base. Senior Preston Patterson added two hits and drove in three, while Senior Conner Kauffeld had two hits, one run and a stolen base.

Freshman Cameron Dawson had two singles for the Hawks (3-6), who had scored a combined 49 runs in their previous two games. Eighth-grader Brandon Cecil, junior Koy Lindsey and sophomore Colby Skaggs each had one hit.

BASEBALL: JOHN HARDIN 11, FORT KNOX 1.Freshman Darian Pope hit and pitched the Bulldogs (3-5, 1-1 17th District) past the visiting Eagles (1-4, 0-1).

On the mound, Pope walked three, allowed three singles – two to Jon Box – and struck out six to earn the complete-game victory. At the plate, he went 3-for-3 and stole three bases.

Senior Andrew Kirkland singled and doubled for John Hardin, while senior Dale Gumm doubled and drove in three.

SOFTBALL: WEDNESDAY: JOHN HARDIN 9, CAVERNA 8.Eighth-grader Season Plants singled, doubled, drove in two runs and stole two bases as John Hardin topped Caverna. Plants (2-1) also picked up the win in the circle, striking out seven and walking two in 6 1/3 innings of relief.

Senior Nawdya Fletcher added an RBI triple for the Lady Bulldogs, who trailed 8-2 before scoring seven runs in the fifth.
