Midway through the third period Thursday night, the Elizabethtown Panthers built a four-point over Covington Catholic.
But the Colonels closed the third quarter on a 17-4 run as they pulled away for a 63-53 win in the Toyota Classic at Scott County.
Junior forward Ja’Von Cotton led Elizabethtown (9-5) with 20 points, while sophomore forward Zane Najdawi had 10 points and four rebounds. Junior guard Ryan Harris and sophomore forward Zach Patterson each scored six for the Panthers, who lost their second straight.
