PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: E'town cruises past Grayson; Taylor downs Lady Eagles (12/11)

A big second-quarter scoring burst propelled the Elizabethtown Panthers to a lopsided win over visiting Grayson County on Monday night.

Elizabethtown outscored the Cougars by 20 points over a 6-minute stretch in the quarter to pull away for a 77-35 win. The Panthers (2-2) turned a 16-14 lead at the end of the first quarter into a 36-14 advantage with 1:56 left in the second period.

Sophomore Zane Najdawi led Elizabethtown with 15 points, 14 rebounds, two steals, one assist and one block, while junior Nic McDonald chipped in with 14 points, six rebounds, two assists and one steal.

Junior Ja’Von Cotton added 14 points, four rebounds, two assists and one steal. Senior Josh Williams and junior Dominique Harding each scored nine points for the Panthers, who were 29-of-42 from the foul line.

GIRLS: TAYLOR COUNTY 45, FORT KNOX 24. The visiting Lady Eagles (1-5) were held to two points in the first quarter as they lost their fourth straight.

Seventh-grader Byanca Powell paced Fort Knox with six points, while sophomores Terrionna Jones and Brenna Stephenson each scored five.

Taylor County led 27-12 at the half.
