PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Hawks win own tourney; Lady Panthers win Mercer County tourney (12/31)

LaRue County junior guard Kyle Sheeran scored 22 points and the host Hawks erased a seven-point deficit to win the championship of the National Guard Holiday Classic with a 61-50 win over Barren County on Thursday.

Sheeran also had six rebounds, five assists and three steals for the Hawks (8-3), while sophomore guard Kelton Ford scored 11 points – all from the free-throw line – to go along with three rebounds, three steals and one assist.

Senior forward Chase Reynolds added nine points, six rebounds and one block.

Sheeran, Ford and senior forward Ryan Whitlock were named to the All-Tournament team.

Campbellsville 64, north hardin 56. In a rematch of last season’s 5th Region Tournament championship, the Eagles got a measure of revenge on the Trojans (7-6), who struggled to get anything going from beyond the arc in the Campbellsville Holiday Classic.

North Hardin, which beat Campbellsville for its first region title since 2003 last year, went just 2-of-19 on 3s as their four-game winning streak was snapped.

Senior forward Chris Sterusky paced the Trojans with 16 points, 10 rebounds and one steal, while junior post Adam Hendrix recorded a double-double (12 points, 12 rebounds).

Junior forward Jauan Akins scored 14 points, while senior guard Trevino Coney had 12 points, four rebounds and three assists.

Coney, Hendrix and Sterusky were named to the All-Tournament team.

ELIZABETHTOWN 60, ERLANGER ST. HENRY 56. Sophomore guard Anna Bowling hit two free throws with 1.5 seconds left as the Lady Panthers (13-1) held on to win the Kentucky Army National Guard Titan Christmas Clash at Mercer County.

Senior guard and tournament MVP Natalie Greenwell and junior guard Kaylyn Cecil each scored 20 points, while senior guard Hannah Hart scored eight and senior forward Kymbur Berrow had six.

Cecil and senior forward Adelaide Luckett were named to the All-Tournament team.
