PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Panthers fall to Perry County Central; Lady Waves win (01/20)

Up four early in the second half, the Perry County Central Commodores pulled away in the final 15 minutes for a 68-46 win over the Elizabethtown Panthers on Friday night in the consolation bracket semifinals of the Toyota Classic at Scott County.

Sophomore post Zane Najdawi, who had 12 points, four rebounds and three blocks, was the only player to score in double figures for the Panthers (9-6). Junior post Dominique Harding added nine points for Elizabethtown, which suffered its third straight loss – its longest losing streak of the season.

Elizabethtown made just six field goals after halftime – missing all nine of its 3-pointers – and was outrebounded by 18.

NORTH HARDIN CHRISTIAN 67, HOPKINSVILLE HERITAGE CHRISTIAN 60, OT. Freshman Joshua Jones scored a team-high 22 points and added five rebounds as the Falcons (14-2) rallied by the Warriors (7-6), who led 47-41 early in the fourth quarter.

Senior Carlos Jones added 20 points and had team highs in rebounds (eight), assists (two) and steals (two). Junior Michael Dial hit three 3-pointers en route to 16 points.

RUSSELL COUNTY 55, LARUE COUNTY 50. The visiting Lakers (14-3) spoiled homecoming night in Hodgenville as they won for the eighth time in nine games.

The Hawks (10-6) had their six-game winning streak snapped.

GIRLS

NORTH HARDIN CHRISTIAN 41, HOPKINSVILLE HERITAGE CHRISTIAN 24. Senior forward Missy Schneider had 14 points, eight rebounds and five steals as the Lady Falcons (7-3) stormed past the visiting Lady Warriors (5-5), who led 18-13 early in the second half.

Sophomore guard Shontice Taylor added 12 points, seven steals and five assists for North Hardin Christian, which has won 3-of-4.

MEADE COUNTY 75, BRECKINRIDGE COUNTY 37. Junior guard Raley Johnson hit five of her team’s 13 3s and finished with 23 points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals as the visiting Lady Waves (12-8, 4-1 11th District) rolled past the Lady Tigers (5-11, 2-3).

Sophomore wing Morgan Turner added 17 points, five rebounds, four assists and three steals for Meade County, which has won 6-of-8. Sophomore guard Addi Lynch chipped in with 10 points, four assists and three steals.
