Five area seniors and three coaches will participate in Saturday’s third annual Best of the Bluegrass All-Star Football Classic.
The game, which will be played at 2 p.m. at Louisville St. Xavier, features players from Louisville and surrounding areas against the rest of the state.
Playing in the game representing the Greater Louisville Football Coaches’ Association are Central Hardin’s Corey Dobbs, John Hardin’s Domonick Brown, LaRue County’s Matthew Hornback and Terell Paysen and North Hardin’s Johnny Hopkins.
Nelson County seniors Dylan Beasley and Reed Montgomery are also on the team, which is comprised of players from Bullitt, Hardin, Jefferson, LaRue, Nelson Oldham, Shelby and Spencer counties.
St. Xavier has five players on the team, while Class 6-A champion Trinity has three. Louisville Central, the 2-A champ, has three members.
The team will be coached by Louisville Atherton’s Kenneth Walker. North Hardin coach Brent Thompson is the offensive coordinator, while two of his assistants – Jose Rivera (wide receivers) and Shaun Boykins (quarterbacks) – are also on the staff.
Louisville Fairdale coach Chris Engstrand, a LaRue County graduate and former North Hardin assistant, will coach the running backs. Gary Wheeler, Mike Jenkins and Shelby County’s Todd Shipley complete the staff.
The Kentucky All-Stars are coached by Simon Kenton’s Jeff Marksberry. Rounding out his staff are John Petett (Monroe County), Tommy Acklin (Frankfort), Rick Thompson (Boone County) and the Simon Kenton trio of Steve Burns, Jesse Herbst and Roy Lucas.
