By NATHANIEL BRYAN nbryan@thenewsenterprise.com GLASGOW — Sophomore quarterback Jordan Brewer threw for one touchdown and ran for another, junior halfback Alex Lee ran 15 times for one touchdown and a game-high 143 yards and sophomore fullback Drew Newberry ran for the go-ahead touchdown with less than a minute remaining Friday night as the LaRue County Hawks beat the homestanding Glasgow Scotties, 28-24. The game featured five lead changes in the final 27 minutes. The last lead change went in favor of the Hawks (3-1) as Newberry’s 10-yard touchdown run with 47 seconds left capped off a nine-play, 86-yard drive in less than 3 minutes. The Scotties (3-2) got the ball back with 45.9 second left at their own 37. They were able to get off seven plays and moved the ball to the LaRue County 34, but the game ended as the Hawks batted down a halfback pass in the end zone. Newberry carried the ball 12 times for 92 yards as the Hawks outgained the Scotties on the ground, 287-129. Lee’s 20-yard touchdown run, coupled with the third of four successful extra points from junior kicker Bo Haun, gave the Hawks a 21-17 lead early in the third quarter before the Scotties responded with a 10-play, 72-yard scoring drive on their next possession to retake the lead, 24-21. Brewer was 2-of-6 passing for 32 yards as senior end Christian Mullins, who caught a 12-yard touchdown catch on the Hawks’ first possession, was responsible for both receptions. Brewer’s 5-yard scramble with 2:49 left in the first half gave the Hawks their first lead at 14-10. LaRue County, which is 3-0 on the road this season, has had to rally for all three of those victories. Nathaniel Bryan can be reached at 505-1758
