Nine area players, including seven from Class 5-A state semifinalist John Hardin, earned spots on the annual Kentucky Associated Press All-State Football Team.

The team was released Friday. More than a dozen media members around the state participated in the voting. Louisville Trinity senior wide receiver James Quick, who led the Shamrocks to the 6-A state title, was voted Mr. Football. Louisville Pleasure Ridge Park’s Jason Hiser, who led the Panthers to a 14-0 start before falling to Trinity in the 6-A final, was voted Coach of the Year.

John Hardin senior left guard Chris Doss and John Hardin senior linebacker Domonick Brown were the area’s only first teamers. Doss is also the first offensive first-team selection from the area since Elizabethtown senior wide receiver Chris Gohman in 2008.

The area had three second-team selections in Meade County senior guard Alex Hogan, John Hardin junior defensive tackle Matt Elam and John Hardin senior linebacker Jalen Fleming. Elam is a repeat honoree, making the 2011 first team.

The area had four honorable mentions in John Hardin junior quarterback Patrick Anderson, John Hardin senior running back Wade Holtsclaw, North Hardin senior offensive tackle Johnny Hopkins and John Hardin senior linebacker Garrett Ray.

Holtsclaw and Brown were in Myrtle Beach, S.C., this weekend for the NUC All-American Game. Hopkins was also a Best of the Bluegrass All-Star football game selection, while Brown, Holtsclaw and Hopkins are on Team Kentucky for the 2013 National Guard Border Bowl against Team Tennessee on Jan. 12 at James H. Taylor II Stadium on the campus of University of the Cumberlands in Williamsburg.
