PREP ROUNDUP: Lady Bruins down Taylor; Lady Panthers roll

Freshman Mariah Bryant and seniors Baylee Sullivan and Jackie Holbert had three hits apiece as Central Hardin scored in six of seven innings Thursday to beat 5th Region rival Taylor County, 8-2.

Bryant was a triple shy of the cycle as she chit her second home run and drove in two while scoring three times. Sullivan scored twice and also nearly had a cycle, missing only a home run.

Holbert and junior April Pence each drove in two runs for Central Hardin (26-4-1), which won its third straight game. Sophomore Kelsey McGuffin had two of the Lady Bruins’ 15 hits.

Junior Jessica Nall yielded just three hits to Taylor County (24-8) in her complete game. She struck out nine and walked three to improve her record to 11-2 this season.

LARUECOUNTY12, JOHN HARDIN 2. Led by junior Courtney Johnson, the visiting Lady Hawks cranked out 16 hits to earn the region victory over the Lady Bulldogs (6-13)

Johnson went 4-for-5 with a home run and three RBIs to help LaRue County (14-18) win its second game in as many days.  Junior Peyton Gardner went 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs, while junior Brigitte Skaggs, freshman Jill Hughes and freshman Jill Hughes each had two hits.

It was more than enough for sophomore Emilee Cundiff, who tossed a complete game with two strikeouts and two walks. Cundiff surrendered just four hits.

MEADECOUNTY 6, LOUISVILLE ASSUMPTION 0. The Lady Waves scored in each of the first four innings and freshman Abby Whelan did the rest.

Whelan threw a complete-game four-hitter, striking out one while walking three. And she also had two hits at the plate to help spur an 11-hit attack.

Junior Chaselyn Allgeier, senior Megan Aebersold and sophomore Madison Haynes each had multiple hits to help Meade County (20-7) win its seventh straight game.

ELIZABETHTOWN12, FORT KNOX 0 (5 INNINGS). The Lady Panthers scored in each of their last four innings to earn the mercy-rule victory over the Lady Eagles.

Every starter had at least one hit in Elizabethtown’s second straight victory. Eighth-grader Taylor Thomas homered and drove in four runs as the Lady Panthers ended the game with a seven-run fifth inning.

Freshman Carly Patterson, eighth-grader Callie Sondergard, eighth-grader Sarah Beth Hundley, junior Brianna Taylor, senior Allison Sherrard, freshman Brokoe Chancey and sophomore Makayla Sherrard all had multiple hits.

Hundley threw all five innings with two strikeouts to earn the victory.

Senior Demyja Holmes went 2-for-2 for Fort Knox, while senior Tatiana Wynder, junior Christina Rice, eighth-grader Candice Nathan and senior Bianca Kelly also had hits.

LOUISVILLEBALLARD 3, ELIZABETHTOWN 1. The visiting Panthers outhit the Bruins but couldn’t break through in their third loss in four games.

Sophomore Austin Freyberger took the loss, tossing four innings while yielding four hits and two earned runs. Fellow sophomore Cody Bridges threw two innings of scoreless relief.

Freyberger drove in the team’s lone run with a single and Bridges had two hits. Sophomore Zeke Pinkham doubled for Elizabethtown (20-9).
