PREP ROUNDUP: North rallies past Lady Waves (5/13)

The News-Enterprise Things were quiet for six innings, but the game picked up in the final one. Meade County scored a run in the top of the seventh, but North Hardin junior Lindsey Blair delivered a two-run single to lift the Trojans to a 2-1 victory Monday night. The Lady Waves scored their run when junior Taylor Smith singled home sophomore Erin Sireno. In the bottom half of the inning, sophomore Jessie Shartzer and senior Brittany Simmons singled. Blair followed with the game winner, scoring Shartzer and Kelsey Whelan, who was pinch-running for Simmons. Junior Shameen Eure and senior Christy Brock also had singles for North Hardin. Junior Cindy Padgett, Malory Wathen and junior Claire Cannady accounted for Meade County’s other hits. Freshman Andrea Whelan earned the win. She gave up five hits and one run, while striking out seven. Junior Maris Harreld took the loss. Enlow walked one and struck out five. Freshman Lyndsay Whitlock went 4-for-4 with two runs scored, a stolen base and an RBI. Junior Megan Mauldin had two singles and an RBI. Senior Tesha Paysen had a single, a run scored and a stolen base. Junior Allie Perkins and freshman Ellen Huff each had a single and an RBI. Junior Jenna Gachassin (8-14) took the loss for John Hardin. She allowed 12 hits, five earned runs and three walks, while striking out four in seven innings. LaRue County senior Curtis Cox had two hits, including a triple, two runs scored and a stolen base, while senior Aaron Mayfield had two hits, two RBIs and a run scored. Junior Tyler Hornback added a two-run double. Hornback picked up the win to improve to 8-0. He struck out eight, while allowing five hits, one walk and three earned runs in six innings. North Hardin (3-25) was led by senior Mark Jones, who collected two hits to go along with two runs scored and two stolen bases.
