PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Central blanks Butler; E'town wins twice (04/05)

A strong outing by junior April Pence and a potent offense carried No. 21 Central Hardin to an 8-0 win over visiting Louisville Butler on Thursday.

Pence (1-1) struck out eight and gave up two hits and two walks as the Lady Bruins won their fourth straight.

Her offense backed her up with seven extra-base hits. Freshman Mariah Bryant had a home run, two doubles and three RBIs, while senior Kelsey McGuffin homered and drove in two runs.

Senior Jordan Lasley added an RBI triple, and Pence had an RBI double. Seventh-grader Meredith Jones doubled for Central Hardin (7-2), which has outscored its last four opponents, 39-7.

ELIZABETHTOWN GOES 2-1 IN LOUISVILLE SOUTHERN SPRING BREAK TOURNAMENT. The Lady Panthers went 2-1 in the first day of the 10-team tournament. Elizabethtown (4-4) lost to Keystone (Ohio), 3-2 and beat Louisville Fairdale, 9-2 and Louisville Presentation, 5-2.

n Elizabethtown was held to two hits – singles by eighth-grader Callie Sondergard and freshman Carly Patterson – in the loss to Keystone.

Eighth-grader Morgan White struck out four in 3 2/3 innings. She allowed four hits, three earned runs and two walks.

n Eighth-grader Taylor Thomas singled, doubled and scored three times to lead the Lady Panthers over Fairdale.

Sondergard added two singles and an RBI, while senior Lauren Denton singled, drove in two runs and scored twice.

Sondergard struck out three, while allowing five hits, three walks and two earned runs in four innings.

n Sondergard struck out five as Elizabethtown held off Presentation. Sondergard allowed two hits, two unearned runs and two walks in five innings.

Junior Brianna Taylor went 2-for-3 with two doubles, while Patterson drove in two runs.

JOHN HARDIN 10, THOMAS NELSON 2. Clinging to a 3-2 lead, the host Lady Bulldogs (3-4) broke the game open with a seven-run sixth.

Senior Lexi Wood went 3-for-4 with a triple, an RBI and a stolen base, while senior Katlyn Geer was 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and two stolen bases. Sophomore Channing Ray doubled and drove in two runs.

Geer (3-4) struck out six, while allowing nine hits and two walks in seven innings.

MEADE COUNTY 5, LEXINGTON PAUL DUNBAR 4. Freshman Katie Wilson, who had two of Meade County’s eight hits, scored the winning run in the top of the seventh to help the Lady Waves (7-3) win their second straight.

Sophomore Elissa Youart had two doubles and two RBIs, while senior Megan Aebersold doubled in a run.

Sophomore Neeli Rhoads got the win, allowing seven hits and two earned runs in two relief innings. Rhoads struck out two.

LARUE COUNTY 4, MUHLENBERG COUNTY 3. The Lady Hawks (4-10) snapped a five-game losing streak with a win in the Florida Beach Bash. It was LaRue County’s fourth straight one-run game.

Junior Peyton Gardner and sophomore Trishtian Cruse each hit a two-run homer for the Lady Hawks.
