PREP SOFTBALL ROUNDUP: Elizabethtown loses two one-run games (04/14)

It was a tough Saturday for the Elizabethtown Lady Panthers, who dropped a pair of one-run games to 5th Region rivals Taylor County and Nelson County.

Taylor County scored twice in the bottom of the eighth to rally for a 9-8 win, while Nelson County scored one in the seventh for a 5-4 victory.

* After Elizabethtown (6-7) took an 8-7 lead in the top of the eighth, Taylor County junior Becca Orberson hit a walk-off two-run double for the win.

The Lady Panthers led 3-0 and 6-2. Taylor County tied it with a three-run sixth inning.

Junior Brianna Taylor had two singles, two runs and an RBI, while eighth-grader Callie Sondergard doubled, singled twice and drove in three runs.

* Nelson County beat Elizabethtown for its second win in three games.

Taylor singled and scored twice, while freshman Carly Patterson singled twice. Sondergard and eighth-grader Taylor Thomas each had an RBI single.

Sondergard struck out 14 but gave up nine hits and four earned runs in 6 2/3 innings.

LARUECOUNTYGOES 1-3. The Lady Hawks (5-14) advanced to the quarterfinals of the Capital City Classic at Franklin County, falling to 12-0 in five innings to Anderson County.

* Anderson County scored all of its runs in the last two innings, handing LaRue County its second mercy-rule loss in the tournament.

The Lady Hawks were held to singles by juniors Peyton Gardner, Courtney Johnson and Brigitte Skaggs.

Skaggs (4-7) gave up seven runs and struck out one in 3 2/3 innings.

* Freshman Jill Hughes went 4-for-4 with a double and three RBIs as LaRue County beat Henry County, 7-5 in the first round of the tournament.

Gardner doubled, singled and scored three times, while Skaggs had two singles and two RBIs.

Skaggs struck out three in six innings.

* Shelbyville Collins led 10-2 after three innings en route to a 12-2 win.

Gardner tripled for LaRue County, while freshman Shakeya Washington had an RBI single.

* Tournament host Franklin County turned a 2-0 deficit into a 6-2 win Friday night.

Hughes and sophomore Trishtian Cruse each had an RBI single, while Gardner singled and scored.

Skaggs gave up eight hits, five earned runs and two walks in five innings. She struck out one.

FORTKNOXGOES 0-2. The Lady Eagles (1-9) lost to Bardstown Bethlehem, 19-1 in three innings in the 5th Region All ‘A’ Classic on Saturday and lost to Louisville Collegiate, 9-1 on Friday.

* Bethlehem led 19-0 after the top of the third and pounded out 22 hits en route to victory in the first round of the All ‘A’ Classic.

Junior Heather Arthur singled and scored for Fort Knox, which lost its ninth straight.

* Collegiate led 6-0 before Fort Knox scored in the fourth.

Senior Bianca Kelley tripled for the Lady Eagles, while senior Demyja Holmes singled and scored.
