The third-ranked Louisville Mercy Jaguars aren’t an area team, but they claimed the unofficial area championship with a 3-0 showing against area teams Friday and Saturday in the 16-team TSOA Tournament at Meade-Olin Park in Brandenburg.
Mercy earned a 3-2 win over Meade County in Saturday evening’s semifinals after beating No. 19 Central Hardin in Saturday afternoon’s quarterfinals, 5-3. In pool play, Mercy no-hit LaRue County in five innings, 12-0 as the Lady Hawks committed five errors. Mercy didn’t play North Hardin.
MEADECOUNTYGOES 4-1. The Lady Waves (5-2) were the only area team to advance to the semifinals after knocking off North Hardin in the quarterfinals, 4-3.
n In the semifinals against Mercy, Meade County freshman Abby Whelan doubled, while sophomore Elissa Youart walked once and drove in one.
n In the quarterfinals against North Hardin, Meade County junior Chaselyn Allgeier went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases. Freshman Rachel Ayer went 2-for-3 with a home run, while senior Ashley Nikolao had one double and one RBI.
North Hardin sophomore Cady Wilson singled and scored twice, while junior Ashley Vasquez, sophomore Bailey Blair and eighth-grader Kayla Clark-Reed each had one single and one RBI.
n Meade County finished pool play Saturday morning with an 8-5 win over Shelbyville Collins as Allgeier had three hits and a stolen base.
Nikolao doubled and drove in two, Youart doubled and stole a base and sophomore Madison Haynes had two RBIs.
n In their second pool game Friday, the Lady Waves cruised to an 18-5 win over Spencer County as Youart hit a grand slam and Nikolao homered and doubled.
In their pool opener Friday, the Lady Waves held off No. 17 Louisville Male, 5-4 as Ayer and sophomore Maddie Tabor both doubled.

NORTH HARDINGOES 2-2. Blair struck out four and the Trojans (2-3) earned their quarterfinal spot Saturday by knocking off Frankfort Western Hills, 7-2 in their final pool game.
Freshman Shelby Peace went 3-for-3 with a double and three RBIs. Vasquez singled, scored and drove in two.
In their second pool game late Friday, the Trojans one-hit Bardstown Bethlehem, 6-0 as Blair struck out eight and didn’t walk a batter.
Peace singled and drove in two. Eighth-grader Kara Bailey singled and scored twice and sophomore Cassie Ferguson singled twice and scored once.
In their pool opener Friday, the Trojans made nine errors in an 8-2 loss to Louisville Butler.
Blair doubled, Wilson had two singles and scored once and Peace scored the other run.

NO. 19 CENTRAL HARDIN GOES 2-2. The Lady Bruins (3-2) fell to Mercy in the quarterfinals as the teams combined for nine extra-base hits.
Senior Jordan Lasley homered and doubled for the Lady Bruins. Sophomore Kelsey McGuffin homered, while senior Jackie Holbert and freshman Mariah Bryant doubled.
Central Hardin completed pool play Saturday with a 5-0 win over Breckinridge County as sophomore Alex Griffith (1-0) didn’t walk a batter while recording a four-strikeout no-hitter. She was two errors away from a six-inning perfect game.
Holbert and McGuffin both singled, doubled and drove in one. McGuffin also scored and stole a base, while Lasley stole two bases and scored once.
In its second pool game Friday, Central Hardin had 25 hits in its five-inning pounding of South Oldham, 19-1.
Six Lady Bruins had multiple hits. Lasley homered and doubled, while Bryant, McGuffin, senior Baylee Sullivan and eighth-grader Aubree Muse – who was 4-for-4 with three RBI – each had a double.
Central Hardin hit four homers in its pool opener Friday, but the Lady Bruins were done in by six errors as they fell to No. 22 Louisville Holy Cross, 6-5 in five innings (time limit).
Lasley, Sullivan and junior April Pence hit solo homers, while McGuffin had a two-run homer. Bryant went 2-for-3 with a double.

LARUECOUNTYGOES 2-2. The Lady Hawks (3-6) dropped an 8-4 decision to Holy Cross in Saturday afternoon’s quarterfinals.
Junior Peyton Gardner went 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in the fifth inning which pulled the Lady Hawks within 8-3.
Junior Brigitte Skaggs and senior Kayla Skaggs each had one hit and one RBI, while freshman Delany Eastridge singled and scored.
The Lady Hawks wrapped up pool play with a 9-3 win against Corydon (Ind.) Central. Brigitte Skaggs (3-2) struck out five, walked one, scattered four singles and allowed just one earned run.
Junior Courtney Johnson tripled and drove in one, while Mallory Skaggs, Eastridge and sophomore Sierra Mullins each had two singles and one RBI.
In its lone pool game Friday, LaRue County beat Grayson County, 6-3, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh when the game went to the international tiebreaker (runner starts inning on second base) because of time constraints.
Johnson went 3-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and one run scored. Mallory Skaggs added two singles.
