PREP TRACK AND FIELD: Plenty of area athletes make All-State Team (06/19)

LOUISVILLE — Several area track and field athletes have more accolades coming their way.

Four athletes were named the Kentucky Track and Cross Country Coaches’ Association Athletes of the Year on the annual KTCCCA All-State Track and Field Team.

North Hardin’s Andrew Stewart was 1-of-3 freshman boys to receive the honor. Elizabethtown eighth-graders Whitney Maurer and Jessica Gabhart along with Meade County eighth-grader Marley Stanfield joined five other middle schoolers to receive the honor.

ALL-STATE TEAM

CLASS 3-A. John Hardin sophomore Brandon Bagley was named to the first team in the 110-meter hurdles, while North Hardin senior Breion Harris (triple jump) and junior Billy Thompson (high jump) also received first-team honors.

The 3,200 relay team of senior Bobby Windham, juniors Greg Shepherd and William Harmonson and Stewart were named to the first team.

Receiving second-team honors were North Hardin seniors Maurice Gosa (triple jump) and Eric McFee (pole vault) and the North Hardin 1,600 relay team of senior Scott Swartz, junior Marcellus Hobbs, Shepherd and Stewart.

On the girls’ side, John Hardin junior Alex Burgess (1,600 run) and the 3,200 relay team of senior Kristia Worthy, Burgess, sophomore Maggie Mattingly and freshman Hanna Alcock garnered first-team honors.

Stanfield (400 dash), Meade County sophomore Shelby Jenkins (800 run) and North Hardin seniors Denisha Oggs (shot put) and Stacie Vaughn (discus) were named to the second team.

North Hardin’s 1,600 relay team of seniors Desiree Russell and Linda Dixon and juniors Markeshia Woodson and Chandler Windham were named to the second team.

CLASS 2-A. Elizabethtown sophomore Chris Ulis (triple jump) was named to the first team.

On the girls side, Maurer (100 hurdles), Gabhart (300 hurdles) and senior Madison Kuklinski (pole vault) were named to the first team. Maurer was also named to the second team in the 1,600 run.

The 800 relay team of Kuklinski, senior Kristen Ballard, sophomore Chantee White and freshman Brianna Burt and the 1,600 team of Kuklinski, juniors Deanna Maurer and Kaylee Gabhart and White were named to the second team.

CLASS 1-A. Fort Knox senior Anthony Bailey was named to the first team in the discus throw.
