Prior to the season, Bill Larrington was worried the Elizabethtown Panthers wouldn’t have anyone competing in the boys’ high jump. That would mean giving up critical points throughout the season.
Having coached the high jump for several years, this was an unusual predicament for Larrington. But after years of pestering and prodding, Larrington finally convinced senior Chas Jones to join the team, and a few months later, found a diamond in the rough shooting hoops inside Charlie Rawlings Memorial Gymnasium during spring break.
