The Elizabethtown Lady Panthers went 7-0 to win the Hilliard Lyons Lady Panther Fall Classic on Saturday.
Elizabethtown (26-5) defeated Paducah Heath (21-11, 21-10), North Bullitt (21-17, 21-14) and Barren County (21-15, 21-14) in pool play, Meade County (21-11, 10-21, 22-20) in a crossover match and Ohio County (21-8, 21-10), Bardstown Bethlehem (13-21, 21-12, 18-7) and Meade County (21-15, 21-9) in the single-elimination tournament.
“I thought we played extremely well during the tournament. We had one down game in the semifinals in our first game against Bethlehem, but other than that, we came ready to play and didn’t have many letdowns,” Elizabethtown coach Tim Hinkle said.
In the championship match against the Lady Waves, freshman Darian Ditto led the Lady Panthers with six kills, while freshman outside hitter/setter Mary Beth Russell chipped in with four kills, two assists and one ace.
Junior setter Kelly Morgan added 12 assists.
“It’s always big when you can beat Meade County considering their record against area teams,” Hinkle said. “They have a quality team and they played well and we were fortunate to finish on top.”
