The LaRue County Lady Hawks went 4-1 on Saturday to place third in the 12-team Jerry Mezur Spikefest at Henderson County.
LaRue County beat Union County (23-25, 25-22, 15-11), Warren East (25-12, 25-17) and Calloway County (25-12, 25-13) in pool play before falling to Hopkinsville University Heights (19-25, 25-14, 16-14) in the gold division semifinals.
The Lady Hawks, however, bounced back to beat Calloway County in the third-place match, 24-26, 25-19, 15-13.
Junior outside hitter Alyson Yingling led LaRue County (22-6) with 40 kills, 15 aces, seven digs and three blocks, while senior middle hitter Alley Evans added 32 kills, 16 digs, eight blocks and four aces.
Sophomore outside hitter Tessa Yingling chipped in with 18 kills, seven digs and three aces, sophomore outside hitter Chloe Owen tallied 18 kills, 13 digs and six aces and senior setter Lorren Newby dished out 110 assists.
The Lady Hawks played without senior middle hitter Ivy Brown and senior libero Sadie Peters.
“It tells me that they’re all buying in to what’s going on,” LaRue County coach Ben Schell said. “They’re ready to play regardless of where they are on the court.”
UP NEXT: LaRue County plays at Elizabethtown at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.
NO. 18 CENTRAL HARDIN GOES 1-2. The Lady Bruins (22-9) went 1-2 in their four-team event Saturday and have lost 4-of-5.
Central Hardin beat Pulaski Southwestern (25-20, 25-22, 25-20), but lost to No. 7 Lexington Tates Creek (25-15, 25-16) and No. 16 McCracken County (25-13, 25-20).
