PREP VOLLEYBALL ROUNDUP: Weekend Results (09/07)

The Elizabethtown Lady Panthers advanced to the quarterfinals of the 12-team Woodford County Invitational on Saturday, going 5-1 over the two-day event.

Elizabethtown (14-3) defeated 5th Region rival Washington County (21-16, 18-21, 17-15) and South Laurel (21-15, 21-14) on Friday and host Woodford County (21-14, 21-17) and Bourbon County (21-10, 21-4) on Saturday en route to winning its pool.

The Lady Panthers then beat the Lady Yellowjackets in the tournament quarterfinals (21-14, 21-12), before falling to Pool A champion Louisville Whitefield in the semifinals, 21-18, 20-22, 10-15.

“I thought we played extremely well. Against Whitefield, they were maybe the top team in the tournament and we went head-to-head with them,” Elizabethtown coach Tim Hinkle said. “It’s a positive sign that they’re continuing to improve. I hope that trend continues.”

UP NEXT: Elizabethtown hosts 5th Region rival Washington County at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday.

NORTH HARDIN GOES 2-3 IN WOODFORD COUNTY INVITATIONAL. The Lady Trojans (6-11) beat host Woodford County (21-11, 21-14) on Friday and Frankfort Western Hills (21-16, 18-21, 15-11) on Saturday.

North Hardin lost to Pulaski County (21-18, 21-19) on Friday and Louisville Whitefield (21-18, 21-13) and South Laurel (21-14, 21-19) on Saturday.

Senior middle hitter Tylar Merritt led North Hardin with 16 kills, nine aces and four blocks, while junior outside hitter/setter Brooke Simmons had 12 assists, nine aces and seven kills.

Senior outside hitter Callie Thomas chipped in with 18 assists, seven kills and five aces and senior libero Lindsay Blair had 20 digs and six aces.

UP NEXT: North Hardin plays at 15th District rival Central Hardin at 7 p.m. Thursday.

CENTRAL HARDIN GOES 3-2 IN LEXINGTON LAFAYETTE INVITATIONAL. The Lady Bruins (14-4) beat Johnson Central, 25-19, 25-7 and lost to Belfry, 19-25, 25-16, 13-15 on Friday.

On Saturday, Central Hardin beat Ashland Blazer, 25-15, 25-7, lost to Scott County, 25-23, 20-25, 13-15 and beat Casey County, 25-15, 25-16.

LARUE COUNTY GOES 3-3 IN METCALFE COUNTY NESTFEST. The Lady Hawks (10-5) split two matches on Friday and split four matches on Saturday in the NestFest at Metcalfe County.

On Friday, the Lady Hawks beat Metcalfe County, 25-20, 25-16 before losing to McCreary Central, 25-27, 14-25.

The Lady Hawks lost to Glasgow in their third pool-play match Saturday, 21-25, 21-25 before beating 5th Region rival Adair County, 25-16, 25-16.

LaRue County beat Warren East in the tournament quarterfinal in straight sets and took a set from Monroe County but fell to the Lady Falcons in the semifinals.
