Children in the Radcliff area can have a last hurrah before stepping back onto a school bus next week.

The Back to School Block Party hosted by All Nations Worship Ministries, Discipling Ministries and Radcliff North Hardin Ministerial Association is offering games, food and free school supplies from 5 to 7 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of All Nations Worship Ministries at 110 Wiselyn Drive.

The event is designed to support area families in an evening of “fun, fellowship and camaraderie,” said Gloria Fite, associate pastor at All Nations Worship Ministries.

“It’s really to give back to the community,” she said. “This is to get them back in gear for going back to school.”

She also said the free party is to support those in the community who are feeling financial strains.

“The economic conditions are so hard on the people,” Fite said. “We’re trying to help anyone that has a need.”

The block party will host Radcliff Fire Department, bounce houses, carnival-style games and a clown, as well as free hot dogs, popcorn, nachos and drinks.

Another feature of the event is free bags of school supplies to help families in need. Fite said about 300 bags will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

This is the second year for the block party, which last year had between 100 and 125 attendees. Fite expects “well over” 200 this year.

Fite cited an African adage as the reason for the event: “It takes a village to raise a child.”

“This is our way of doing our part to raise our children,” she said.
