Optimist Club of Radcliff board member, Jessie Lee, left, and secretary Denise Haynes, right, participated in the Optimist International third annual Bragger’s Hall workshop during the 2009 Convention on July 10 in Kissimmee, Fla. Each participating club was assigned a table where they could display project materials, such as posters, pictures, information handouts and journal entries, to share information about one of their club’s creative community service projects or successful fundraisers. Convention attendees were invited to visit the Bragger’s Hall to get new ideas and learn how to organize the projects in their communities. As an incentive for clubs to participate, a special prize was offered to the club with the best project display. As attendees left the Hall, they were able to vote for their favorite display. The winning club was awarded one free registration to the 2010 International Convention in Denver. Lee and Haynes won the first place prize for showcasing the Optimist Club of Radcliff’s Easter egg hunt. As part of their display, they had several pictures showing kids having fun at the egg hunt, along with news articles that had been written about the event. They distributed handouts that described in detail how other clubs can begin their own egg hunt along with contact numbers for further questions. Finally, they had several eggs that attendees could choose from with the possibility of winning a little something special. Several of the eggs were filled with candy, but there were a few that club pins and Kentucky pins, and some that had erasers indicating they had won a big prize, such as a bunny rabbit or basket with a bunny or chick inside to accent the Easter holiday.
