Republican Party hosts convention

The Republican Party of Hardin County hosted the second congressional district convention May 19 at Vaughn Reno Starks Community Center in Elizabethtown, with 233 delegates from more than 20 counties attending. The Senior Republican Women’s Forum facilitated the event, in addition to selling political-related items as a fundraiser. The Hardin County Republican Women’s Club decorated with a patriotic theme.The morning began with committee meetings. The convention was brought to order by Second District Chairman Jim Weise, former chairman of the Hardin County Republican Party, after which each committee chairman gave a report. After brief discussion by convention delegates, reports were approved.


Ken Randall, chairman of the resolutions committee, recommended the final resolutions for the second district.

Second District Congressional Representative Brett Guthrie addressed the convention in addition to outgoing chairman Jim Weise, who was recognized for his years of service. The new slate of officers for the second district were introduced with the new district chairman, Scott Lasley, chairman of the Warren County Republican Party and a political science professor at Western Kentucky University, presiding.

After closing remarks, several members attended the Republican Party of Kentucky’s state dinner in Lexington with 650 guests in attendance to hear keynote speaker Gov. Chis Christie of New Jersey.
