An Elizabethtown couple injured in a two-vehicle collision Wednesday at an intersection just outside of Cecilia continues to be treated at a Louisville hospital.

Retired attorney Quinn F. Pearl Jr., 75, remained in critical condition Friday at University Hospital in Louisville. His wife, Sherry S. Pearl, 69, was listed at fair status.

According to Kentucky State Police, the couple was traveling north around 4:40 p.m. Wednesday on Long Grove Road in a 2006 Nissan passenger vehicle. The Nissan moved into the intersection at Hardinsburg Road, entering the path of an oncoming Ford F-150 pick-up truck, police said.

The truck, driven by Christopher D. Waldrip, 43, of Hudson, was eastbound on Hardinsburg Road and had the right of way, according to KSP.

The F-150 collided with the driver’s side of the Pearl’s Nissan, according to police. The passenger car went on to strike an unoccupied, parked 1988 Chevrolet pick-up truck before coming to a rest in a yard in the 4200 block of Hardinsburg Road.

Because Quinn Pearl was trapped inside the vehicle, firefighters on the scene cut off the driver’s side door to extricate him.

Police said Quinn and Sherry Pearl both were wearing seat belts.

Quinn Pearl was airlifted to University Hospital with life-threatening injuries, police said, while Sherry Pearl was driven to Hardin Memorial Hospital and later flown to Louisville.

Waldrip was treated at HMH for minor injuries, police said.

According to Post 4, the investigation into the wreck is ongoing.
