The Rev. Willie Jones

The Rev. Willie Jones went to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 19, 2012.

The Rev. Jones was born in Buck Crossing, Ala., on Aug. 8, 1921, and was a longtime resident of Louisville, where he was employed with L&N Railroad-Seaboard System for approximately 37 years until his eventual retirement in 1983. He served as pastor at Lifeline Temple Church of God in Christ in Elizabethtown and House of Refuge Church of God in Christ in Bowling Green. He pastored both congregations simultaneously for approximately 28 years, which concluded in April 2007. During his tenure, both congregations flourished abundantly under his administration. He was very active in the local community through his ministries, spending countless hours preaching the Gospel counseling many throughout both cities. He received an Honorable Kentucky Colonel in June of 1996 and was a World War II Veteran. He spent the majority of his leisure when possible hunting, gardening and fishing. The Rev. Jones established an additional ministry in July 2007 as senior pastor of New Life Tabernacle Church of God in Christ in Radcliff. He will be greatly missed by many former and current church members, neighbors, well wishers and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Jim and Florence Jones; six brothers, Arthur Jones, James Jones, Woodrow Jones, Curtis Jones, Luther Jones and Ezel Jones; and three sisters, Estelle Jones-Franklin, Lucille Jones-Morris and Alice Jones-Seal.

He leaves to cherish and celebrate his life, his dedicated and loving companion of 55 years, the Mother Bernice Young-Jones; his 10 children, Michael (Teressa) Jones of Hardinsburg, Sharon Jones-(UpShaw) Briggs of Vine Grove, Ivy Jones-Moore of Rock Hill, S.C., Cedric (Pancy) Jones of Cecilia, Andrea Jones-(Carl) Singleton of Chesterfield, Va., Alan (Emma) Jones of Louisville, Michelle Jones-(Thomas) Johnson of Elizabethtown, Robert Jones of Atlanta, Berniece Jones-(Marc) Nyarko of Elizabethtown, and Christina Jones of Rineyville; 23 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; his sole surviving sister, Ruth Jones-(Lorenzo) Ash of Mobile, Ala.; as well as a whole host of nieces, nephews and four brothers-in-law.

His life was celebrated Friday, April 27, at Stithton Baptist Church in Radcliff. The Elder Edmond Bruton provided the eulogy. Interment was Monday in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery-Central in Radcliff with military honors.

Visitation was Thursday at New Life Tabernacle Church of God in Christ in Radcliff.

Ellliott Mortuary in Madisonville is in charge of arrangements. Percell & Sons Funeral Home will assist.
