Transportation Cabinet issues alerts for motorists

Gaither Station Road will be closed early Monday and work on Valley Creek Road near Ky. 210 will complicate travel this week.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet reported contract crews are scheduled to pour concrete Monday on the westbound bridge deck over Gaither Station Road. The overpass is being constructed as part of the Ring Road extension.

The work will require closure of Gaither Station Road between Arnold Lane and Pinnacle Lane beginning at 6 a.m. Monday. Gaither Station runs from U.S. 62 of Elizabethtown’s west side and generally follows the railroad track south toward Glendale.

Chris Jessie, spokesman for the cabinet, said the work should be complete and Gaither Station Road reopened by 6 p.m. Motorists traveling this section of Gaither Station Road will be required to seek an alternate route from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m.

A concrete pour for the eastbound lane is scheduled the following week and will require the same closure, Jessie said. An exact schedule will be announced.

Meanwhile, highway workers will undertake a repair project Monday on Valley Creek Road, which also is known as Ky. 567.

The work, which is expected to take about two weeks, will occur approximately one mile east of the intersection with Ky. 210 on Elizabethtown’s south side. Crews will be stabilizing an embankment slide.

During daytime hours, the road will be reduced to one lane, Jessie said.

Signs will be posted from each direction on approach to the work zone. Motorists should reduce their speed and watch for flaggers who will direct one-way traffic.
