A 15-year-old runaway from Hardin County taken into custody Monday in Los Angeles, Calif., gave sheriff’s deputies the slip at a crowded Atlanta airport while being escorted home, officers said. According to Hardin County Sheriff’s Office Executive Officer Greg Lowe, the girl had been "living on the streets of L.A. for two or three months" prior to being located by authorities. A Hardin County family court judge mandated her return, and two deputies traveled to California early Monday for the pickup and flight back, police said. But during a flight transfer, the teen fled. “She was not under arrest,” Lowe said. “And she just bolted into a crowd.” Lowe described the teen as “streetwise,” and non-violent.
The girl's identity was not released because she is a minor.
