Elizabethotwn’s new police chief, Tracy Schiller, was the guest speaker at the March 20 meeting of the Elizabethtown Lions Club. After a brief history of his prior 30 years in law enforcement, ranging from patrol to management levels, Chief Schiller shared some of his vision for the future of the Elizabethtown Police Department. Lion Tony Bishop received recognition from the chief for his efforts in promoting the Drug Takeback Program and the club was thanked for its donation of funds for the first safe disposal container, located at the Elizabethtown Police Department. The Takeback Program was designed to raise awareness, to provide intervention and prevention of widespread drug misuse and to ensure environmentally safe disposal of prescription pills, over-the-counter medications, vitamins, pet medications, etc. The drop box is accessible 24 hours a day, seven days a week for anonymous disposals. Pills should be in their original containers with names marked out or removed or placed in envelopes with the name of the medication marked on the front. Needles, sharps and bio-hazard material will not be accepted. Liquid medications need to be tightly sealed. If there are circumstances where a person cannot get to the drop box, the department can be called for a pickup at the residence.
