20-year-old walked away from jail detail in Radcliff

Area police continue the hunt for a jail inmate who walked away from custody Friday afternoon at Saunders Springs.

Ryan C. Jones, 20, was serving time at Hardin County Detention Center for first-degree fleeing or evading police and first-degree wanton endangerment.

According to the jail, the charges originated in Whitley County and Jones was a state inmate classified for the work-release program.

Jailer Danny Allen said the volunteer supervisor at the Radcliff work site had Jones in sight up until at least 2 p.m. The inmate’s absence was reported to the jail just after 3 p.m.

The walk off was reported to Kentucky State Police Post 4 at 3:38 p.m. Friday, according to a news release.

On Monday, Norman Chaffins, spokesman at Post 4, reported state police had no leads but said the investigation was ongoing.

“We know he has connections in Radcliff and obviously (Dayton, Ohio) because he’s from there,” Chaffins said.

Based on Jones’ phone conversations Thursday night, Allen said the inmate could be headed to Dayton. Law enforcement there has been notified, he said.

According to Allen, Jones returned to the Hardin County Detention Center a week before his escape after temporarily being relocated to another state jail.

He was scheduled to be released in May, Allen said, and had approximately 45 days left of his sentence.

Anyone with information about Jones’ whereabouts is asked to contact Kentucky State Police Post 4 at (270) 766-5078 or 1-800-222-5555. Callers may remain anonymous.
