As harvest has begun for most producers in the county, we all have quickly realized patience will be needed as we progress through the fall.
Plentiful moisture and mild temperatures provided excellent growing conditions this summer and are bringing above-average corn and soybean yields in Hardin County. These conditions are a double-edged sword however, as they also have hampered fall dry down, and produced tall, shallow-rooted plants. This situation forces producers to set priorities as they proceed through harvest to keep problems from compounding as we progress through fall.
