ELIZABETHTOWN — Growing up with hearing loss in Hodgenville, Anita Dowd sought role models who had overcome similar barriers.
“Deaf people were never seen on TV or in the movies,” she wrote in an e-mail. “My exposure to other deaf children and adults was nonexistent. I was apprehensive about how my hearing loss would affect my future.”
