Shots fired Friday in Elizabethtown

Radcliff resident arrested

A Radcliff man was arrested Friday in Elizabethtown for allegedly firing shots near Haycraft Street.

Elizabethtown Police Department officers responded to a report of shots fired at 4:33 p.m. and spotted the suspected vehicle while police were heading toward Haycraft Street, according to an EPD news release.

Officer Terry Cox stopped the car near First Citizens Bank on Dixie Avenue. The passenger, James D. Owens, 21, left the car and ran. Owens was spotted running toward Morningside Drive, and while being watched by an EPD officer he hit a car in the parking lot of First Citizens Bank, according to the news release.

The driver of the car Owens hit, Caroline Gibson, 66, of Elizabethtown, suffered minor injuries and was taken to Hardin Memorial Hospital.

Owens was found at E’town Pet Store on Sycamore Street and was taken to the Hardin County Detention Center. He was charged with first degree wanton endangerment, first degree fleeing and tampering with physical evidence, for allegedly disposing of the gun used in the incident, according to the release.

The driver in the car with Owens was Damone A. Ashford, 26, of Elizabethtown. He was charged with driving without an operator’s license, according to the release.

The investigation is ongoing.
