Kerry Reeves, program chair, introduced Charlie Skees, fellow retiree and member of the Elizabethtown Downtown Walking Tour, who presented a program to members of EHLRTA at the November meeting.
Skees, aka General Custer, was in full costume and character as he revealed historical facts. From the number of saloons and moonshine stories to the effects of the influenza outbreak in 1918 to military tidbits, General Custer brought a period of history to life.
President Lin Linder presided over the business meeting. Various committee chairs presented reports. Ramona Jeffries urged members to encourage other retirees to join the Kentucky Retired Teachers Association. Volunteer hours reports should be turned in or mailed to Patsy Young. Members were reminded of Salvation Army bell ringing and Angel tree projects by Martha Lloyd.
Long-term insurance concerns were discussed. Member Cindy Goodman presented information and encouraged members to contact the Kentucky Department of Insurance about concerns.
Julia Richardson gave a moment of inspiration emphasizing we must be thankful for members, an important part of our heritage. Door prizes were awarded to Diana Bennett, E.G. Thompson, Bennie Lou Hammonds, Paul James and Mary Hazel.
The next meeting is Jan. 17.
