Hardin, LaRue, Meade and E'town all cancel classes

Snowy weather and excessively cold conditions have led school districts in Hardin, LaRue and Meade counties plus Elizabethtown and West Point to close today.

Early morning classes at Elizabethtown Community and Technical College are canceled today. ECTC will open at 10 a.m. today.

Fort Knox Community Schools are on a two-hour delay. Hart, Nelson, Breckinridge and Bullitt county schools also are closed today as well as Bardstown and Cloverport independent districts. Grayson County Schools are opening one hour later than normal.

The military post at Fort Knox also announced a two-hour delay for employees today unless your job has been defined as weather essential. Hardin County government and the Hardin County Public Library also have implemented a two-hour delay today.

Temperatures are in the low teens today and are not expected to exceed 22 degrees. The National Weather Service also says that wind chills could reach 40-below zero today and tonight. More snow is expected tonight, according to forecasters.

Some rural roads and side streets are slick because of the overnight snowfall, which was a half inch in some areas. Beware of black ice which is difficult to spot on the roadway. Bridges and overpasses also are more likely to be icy than surface roads.
