A soldier assigned to a unit that will redeploy to Fort Knox next summer died recently in Afghanistan.
Staff Sgt. Kristopher D. Rodgers, 29, of Sturgis, Mich., died Aug. 16 in Korengal, Afghanistan, when a roadside bomb exploded near his vehicle, the Pentagon said Tuesday.
He was assigned to the 1st Battalion, 26th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 1st Infantry Division.
Rodgers' death is at least the seventh in the brigade combat team since it began its combat tour earlier this summer.
