Community Health Clinic of Hardin and LaRue Counties hopes to raise $50K

A local health clinic is offering the best of area culinary and visual arts in exchange for a helping hand for those in need of services.

Tickets now are available for the annual Taste of the Heartland fundraiser event for the Community Health Clinic of Hardin and LaRue Counties. The event’s popularity created the need to relocate to Pritchard Community Center this year. Taste of the Heartland is set for Aug. 9.  Doors open at 5:30 p.m. and dinner is at 6:30. Tickets are $50 per person. Sponsorships for the event are available.

This year, the event has seating for about 250, Clinic Executive Director Rebecca Allen said.

“Last year, it was standing-room only, literally,” Allen said.

While organizers hated running out of chairs, it was a display of the generosity of the community.

“It was definitely a good problem to have,” she said.

Last year, the fundraiser, which also includes an art auction after dinner, raised more than $48,000 to go toward general expenses of the clinic. The clinic’s expenses for 2012 came to more than $208,000.

The clinic served 611 patients last year, totaling 1,884 visits. It also provided 9,602 prescriptions to patients. The total value of the services was about $4.4 million, according to the clinic.

Allen said she’d like to raise more than $50,000 this year.

She said she believes the clinic’s donors understand the importance of health care access and what lack of health insurance can mean for those in need of services.

“I think health care is definitely on the forefront of everybody’s minds these days,” she said.

The event features several restaurant vendors, including Stone Hearth, Tony York’s on Main and 2 B Thai. Several artists from the Central Kentucky Art Guild, as well as others, have donated art for the auction.
